For Future's Sake, Take A Kid Fishing

One of the greatest and simplest of joys that anyone could ever experience is watching a small child catch their first fish. Now granted they may have had a big person throw the line out for them and even set the hook, but watch that shining face when that fish gets closer and closer!!! They may not like it once it makes it to shore and they find out it doesn't smell like Catfish Cove Restaurant, and it's slimier than gummy worms that have been left out in the rain, but those few moments that success is evident and they are in complete control of another living thing.....priceless!!
It seems like the youth of today never have time for the simple pleasures. It's really up to all of us to make sure that option is kept open to them. How many teens and twenty-somethings do you know that have never been fishing, don't know the feel of communing with nature and becoming a part of it in a primal way? There is too much demand put upon them by their friends, and I daresay their parents, to become more technically dependant in a society that is in such a hurry to transform itself that it loses all of its own history.
We need to get back to the basics. We need to get these children and future children and parents of children to have the same tyes of memories that we older members of society have. Get back to the fishing, the hunting, the earlier days of our society. This will be the only way that we will be able to make them care about these things and become good stewards of the land and its bounty. It would be a sad thing to lose those things that are so precious to us - simply because we could not make the time to take a kid fishing!
